The Loar mandolins are made from hand carved solid woods, representing great value.
As most archtop mandolins below a certain price are shipped from factories without much attention to the final setup,we include a basic set up which  allows them to function adequately (finding correct bridge position for intonation, lowering thumb wheels for action and over all inspection).

Authentic mandolin chop is recognizable from the first strum, and can only be found in an instrument with a true, hand-carved spruce top. The Loar hand-carved the tops of the LM-110 to provide that real 1920s sound, but with enough vibration to still cut through in todays ensemble playing.

The thin V profile of the maple neck fits comfortably in the players hand and our removal of the fretboard extension beyond the 20th fret allows for easy strumming without getting hung up on the extended upper frets.

The original and authentic A-model body shape is quite simply a longstanding favorite.

Value mandolin featuring hand carved top, matte finnish,Grover tuning machines and bone nut.

Authentic mandolin chop is recognizable from the first strum, and can only be found in an instrument with a true, hand-carved Spruce top. We've hand-carved the tops of the LM-310F to provide that real 1920s sound, but with enough vibration to still cut through in today's ensemble playing.

The thin V profile of the maple neck fits comfortably in the players hand and our removal of the fretboard extension beyond the 20th fret allows for easy strumming without getting hung up on the extended upper frets.

Combine the graceful curves of an authentic F-style body and a graduated solid spruce carved top, and you've got an instrument that not only sounds great out of the box but also one you can hand down to the next generation of players.

All solid hand carved F-style mandolin

The hand carved  LM-520 F-model mandolin is our response to players requests for a great-sounding, high-value mandolin with low key appointments.

The LM-520 is carefully assembled in the same hand-carved workshop that gave birth to the industry-leading LM-700-VS, and has a similar hand-carved, fully graduated spruce top. The solid maple back is also hand-carved, and the solid maple sides complete the all-solid package. The maple neck has a comfortable rounded V profile finished with a padauk fretboard. The compensated adjustable ebony bridge and high quality vintage-style Grover tuning machines insure that these mandolins have great intonation and stay in tune no matter how hard they are played.

Perfect for players who want a high-quality, great-sounding hand-carved mandolin but don't need all of the bells and whistles, these minimally appointed instruments deliver the high-end tone, chop and projection mandolin players have come to expect from The Loar.

The Loars new hand carved, nitrocellulose-finished mandolin (LM-700) is a tribute to classic design techniques. From the hand-carved, hand graduated AAA spruce top and AAA Flamed Maple back and sides to the abalone/mother-of-pearl headstock inlay, these mandolins were built to represent Golden Age craftsmanship updated for the modern era.

Carved and assembled in the Loar Hand Carved Design Workshop, then hand-rubbed with nitrocellulose lacquer for clean warm tone and powerful projection, these mandolins offer sounds that could only be previously found in instruments that were decades-old.

The Loar Hand Carved mandolin is assembled with a one-piece maple neck and bound ebony fretboard, ebony bridge and vintage-style Gotoh tuners.
The bone nut and ebony bridge allow for the singing sustain and sharp chop that professional players look for in a high-quality mandolin.
